Kuchar and Hueber, champions in Mexico

Birdie after birdie, and showing what makes him one of the best players in the world (ranking 13th), Matt Kuchar and his partner Justin Hueber positioned the United States in the top of the leaderboard of Bridgestone America´s Cup Golf presented by Value (PGA TOUR LA). The Americans gave a master class in the final round, finishing with 60 (-11), and a total of 250 (-34), winning the second edition of the championship at the Club Campestre of Mexico City.

In second place were the Puerto Ricans Rafael Campos and Edward Figueroa that finished with 254 (-30) after an extraordinary final round of 61 (-10).

There was a tie in the third place, the teams of Colombia (Marcelo Rozo and Manuel Merizalde, 60 on Sunday) and Canada (Taylor Pendrith and Corey Conners, 63) finished with 255 (-29).

As regards local teams, the best positioned were Sebastian Vazquez and Juan Pablo Solis, who signed in 68 (-3) and 260 total (- 24), and finished in the tenth place.

The Paraguayans Marco Ruiz and Fabrizio Zanotti, protagonists of the first three rounds, could not keep the pace, and, with a final round of 68 (-3) finished in the fifth place with total of 258 (-26).

The amazing performance of Hueber and Kuchar included an eagle, ten birdies and only one bogey. They set the pace as from the first tee of the last round. A large audience followed the action in Campestre, enjoying the 28 (-8) strokes the American team needed to finish the first nine holes setting a difference the other teams could not reduce. On the back nine, they played at ease, with a great advantage over the second team, and were crowned the best American team.

"It was critical to get the advantage in the first holes, we could play the last leg of the championship at ease", said Kuchar, who along with Hueber carded in the best score of the day (60) tied with the Colombians Rozo and Merizalde. Kuchar was also grateful and very happy of playing this tournament on Mexican soil.

"I´m happy, it shows that the organization has done an excellent job for this great tournament, playing in Mexico has been a pleasure. I would love to come back", he added "It was an amazing week. Having the chance of playing with a player of the stature of Kuchar does not happen every day, and, on top of that, we come back home with the title. I could not ask for more," said Hueber, who this year has also won the Mexican Open.

The Mexicans Solis and Vazquez teed off on Sunday near the lead, but did not manage to finish with great colors, mainly "due to" the amazing performance of the champions.

"We did not play very well this Sunday, but, it would have been really difficult to match the performance of Kuchar and Hueber," Vazquez said.

Lisandro Borges, CEO of Bridgestone America´s Cup Golf presented by Value said the event was a success, especially among the Mexican audience.

"This has been a perfect week, a tournament which exceeded all expectations, thanks to the support of the sponsors, of Bridgestone and Value, and also the Club, the Federation, the PGA TOUR LA and all and everyone involved in the tournament" Borges said, and added: "When a country welcomes us as if it were our home, we can only be fully grateful and that is how Mexico received us ... just thank you," concluded the CEO.

On the other hand, Daniel Benvenuti, President of Bridgestone, congratulated Matt Kuchar (brand ambassador worldwide) and Justin Hueber: "They played like true champions."

In turn Carlos Bremer, CEO of Value said: "Mexico is doing things right, Cazaubón and Ortiz were very well the first day, we need to build on that." The second edition of Bridgestone America´s Cup presented by Value Golf was played with the format of 72-hole Fourball Stroke Play, 30 teams (60 players) representing 19 countries participated. The most prestigious team event in Latin America is part of calendar 2015 PGA TOUR LA and has a purse of $ 300,000, one of the most important in the region.
