Golf at the highest level: Kuchar and Hueber take the lead in Mexico
Luxurious and magnificent golf. Seven birdies, two eagles and no bogeys were the statistics that catapulted the US team to the lead, Matt Kuchar and Justin Hueber, handed in a card of 60 strokes (-11) and a total of 127 (-15) in the second round of the second edition of Bridgestone America's Cup Golf presented by Value (PGA TOUR Latinoamérica), played at Club Campestre golf course in Mexico City, par 71 and 7,267 yards .In the second place is the Paraguayan team of Marco Ruiz and Fabrizio Zanotti, leaders after the first 18 holes, who signed a 68 (-3) card and total 128 (-14) separated from the leaders by the minimum difference.
As part of a vibrant Friday, the leaders prevailed thanks to their superb shots to the flag and sound putting. When playing this format, it is essential to complement the best possible way to get good results, to try not to make mistakes in the same hole. And nobody could beat Kuchar and Hueber in not making mistakes.
"It was a great day to play golf, I felt very comfortable with Justin. The things turned out just the way we had planned,” revealed Kuchar, who was very comfortable with the course and with the Mexican audience. "The course is in excellent condition, the gallery behaved wonderfully. We are in good position for the weekend,” concluded Kuchar, just arrived from a victory last week in Fiji.
Hueber, on the other hand, is the winner of the 2015 Mexican Open, a tournament that is part of the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. He said he felt delighted with how they played on Friday: "Playing with Matt is amazing, he is a great player and an excellent person, I feel great, I like Mexico,” he said. "I'm very calm, I feel relaxed and with a good feeling," said Hueber, 28, native of Arkansas.
The Paraguayans Ruiz and Zanotti, leading after the first eighteen holes, could not keep Thursday´s birdie streak. Erratic on approach shots and with little accuracy on the greens they managed to be alone in the second position, still in the struggle.
"We were not very effective, the wind played but it was us who did not play strong golf," said Zanotti, who along with Ruiz assured they will keep fighting to the end and still feel very optimistic.
"Beyond that, we are convinced that we will be in the fight until the last hole. Fortunately we are only one stroke behind the leaders," said Ruiz. On the other hand, the best positioned local players are Sebastián Vázquez and Juan Pablo Solis, with a card of 66 (-5) and a total of 129 (-13), in the third place, expectant, just two strokes away, wanting to be prophets in their own land.
"We did not play very well. Luckily, we had a great closing with birdie on the 18th (Solis). We are in good position and there is still much to happen,” confided Vazquez, one of the Mexican figures, who is seventh in the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica ranking.
Other teams sharing the third place with 129 (-13) are the Americans Adam Schenk and Nate Lashley (63, -8) and Puerto Ricans Rafael Campos and Edward Figueroa (65, -6).
The excellent level the teams had already shown in the first eighteen hole continued throughout the second round. With excellent weather conditions, the golf fans who visited the club located in Colonia Campestre Churubusco enjoyed a feast of birdies.
We are sure that this event has lots of excitement in store for the weekend until one team is crowned on Sunday. A good position will give teams the chance of being the best American Team.
